NEWS: Luke Bornn of Sacramento Kings to deliver guest talk at the OptaPro Analytics Forum

Luke Bornn, one of the leading practitioners in the sports analytics industry and Vice President, Strategy and Analytics for the NBA’s Sacramento Kings, will deliver the guest talk at the 2018 OptaPro Analytics Forum.

In the third guest talk to take place at the event (following Dean Oliver and Dennis Lock), Luke’s presentation will not only focus on his current role at the Sacramento Kings, but will also elaborate on his time at AS Roma, where he was Head of Analytics for the Serie A side.

In his role at AS Roma, Luke worked closely with managers, coaches and sports scientists to measure and evaluate athletes and performance. In addition to his work with soccer and basketball teams, the British Columbia native has previously held tenure-track professorships in Statistics at both Harvard University and Simon Fraser University.

Alongside his applied work, Luke is a frequent contributor to the field of sports analytics, authoring research articles for the Journal for Quantitative Analysis, the Annals of Applied Statistics and the Journal of the American Statistical Association amongst others—providing insights on basketball related topics such as NCAA Tournament forecasting, predicting possession outcomes in NBA contests and the spatial anatomy of defensive success.

His work has been featured by, ESPN the Magazine, Bleacher Report,, the Boston Globe and many others.

When discussing the Forum, Luke said:

“As an attendee representing a club in the past, I can attest to the value of the OptaPro Forum as a place to expand one's knowledge about quantitative analysis in football. I look forward to having a chance to share how analytical thinking is shaping other sports, and how football clubs can follow suit."
